Jewelry Plating Services

Jewelry plating is when a thin layer of metal is added to the surface layer of a jewelry piece.

It’s done to give the piece a new hue and a revitalized finish, and at the same time also adds a layer of protection.

Jewelry when brand new can come freshly plated. Jewelry can come freshly plated when it’s brand new. Plating can also be done later to refresh that initial coating as it wears down, or on its own to add or change the hue of an existing piece.

We plate fine jewelry made from silver, gold, or platinum. Whether a specific piece can be plated depends on its design, condition, any stones it has, and the finish you're after. Show it to us and we'll let you know.

White gold alloys on their own don’t have that frosty white finish you’re probably accustomed to (it’s not white gold’s natural hue!).

Instead, this finish is accomplished through plating the white gold piece with a thin coat of Rhodium.

Over time, the coating of Rhodium wears with use, so pieces plated with it will need replating occasionally to rejuvenate that bright white finish.

There's no single timeline. A ring you wear every day takes far more friction than a pendant you wear a few times a year.

Furthermore, the thickness of the plating matters too.

Usually, you'll notice it yourself.

The surface color of your piece may start to look uneven; the metal underneath may begin to show through where the piece gets the most contact. Sometimes the overall brightness of your piece may seem a bit lackluster.

Absolutely. Note, though, that some stones and materials need extra care during servicing, so we check the piece over and work out the right approach before we start.
