Prong Retipping & Rebuilds

Over time, prongs wear down through everyday contact — against skin, clothing, and surfaces. Retipping adds metal back to the tips of the prongs, restoring the setting and keeping the stone securely in place. 

In situations where the prongs are damaged beyond repair (they can’t be retipped), they can be completely rebuilt from the ground up. 

Two tell tale signs that your prongs may need to be retipped are if they look dull or damaged, or if the stone they hold moves easily when touched. 

 Note that if you’re not sure if your piece needs to be retipped, you can bring it in for a complimentary inspection.

For rings worn daily, it’s a good idea to have the prongs checked every year or two. Rings take a lot of daily wear, and catching prong wear early is much better than dealing with a lost stone. 

If a piece hasn’t been looked at in a few years, it’s worth bringing in for a check.
